TABBY - plain weave where fibers of the same size are constructed with one warp thread passing over and under a single weft thread
TABLE RUNNER - slender, decorative cloth, typically used lengthwise down the center of a dining table, for surface protection and embellishment
TABLETOP - top surface of a table, which can be made of wood, glass, stone or any manmade materials
---Beveled Edge - slanted edge, square bottom
---Bullnose Edge - thick round, full or half
---Dupont Edge - indented half-round, square bottom
---Flat Edge - straight cut
---Ogee Edge - multiple S-curved
---Pencil Edge - narrow full-round
---Radius Edge - slightly rounded top
---Rock Face - roughly and randomly textured
---Waterfall Edge - rounded top, square bottom
TAFFETA - plain weave fabric woven on both sides, often with a sheen on the surface
TAILORED - having a neat, custom fit appearance
TAPER - gradual transition
TAPESTRY - machine or manmade woven wall hanging with a tapestry weave
TAPESTRY WEAVE - intricate woven textile with several sets of filler yarns on a single warp to produce elaborate multi-colored pictorial designs. See WARP, WEFT
TASK LIGHTING - lighting required for visually intensive activities or work surface, i.e. reading lamp
TASSEL - decorative fringe or twisted fibers rolled and bound together into a sphere and suspended from a cord
TECHNOLOGY - electronic applications designed to aide in communication or performance
TENSILE STRENGTH - breaking strain of fabrics or yarns
TETE-A-TETE - specialty seating designed to accommodate two people for an intimate conversation, often in an "S" shape, but can also be seen in side-by-side or end-to-end configurations
TERTIARY COLOR - a primary and secondary color on the color wheel blended together. See ANALOGOUS, COMPLIMENTARY, PRIMARY, SECONDARY
TEXTURE - overall intertwined structure
TEXTILE - machine and hand-woven, knitted or felted fibers and yarns joined together on a loom with fibers, which run lengthwise (warp) secured and horizontal (weft) fibers intermingled over and under the warp threads to introduce pattern, texture and interpret images on area rugs, clothing, fabric, tapestries, etc.
THEME - a prevalent idea or attribute running throughout a project
THEMED ENVIRONMENTS -
entertainment or gaming destination oriented toward a lifestyle, culture, story-line, historical or fictional incident offering unique attributes and experiences
THREAD COUNT - number of warp ends and filling picks per inch in woven goods
THRONE - chair utilized by kings, cardinals for ceremonial occasions
THROW - small decorative spread or coverlet, often woven with fringe
TICKING - heavy twill with a colored yarn stripe in the warp
TIE-BACK - any decorative element used to hold drapery panels away from the center of a window
TOILE - cotton or linen woven or printed documentary fabric, typically printed in monotone color on an off-white or white background, originally made in France
TOILE DE JOUY - fabrics printed in one color with 18th- and 19th-Century scenes
TOLE - elaborately painted tin metal decorative objects
TONE - tint or shade of a color
TONE ON TONE - using two or more shades of the same hue
TONGUE AND GROVE - wood joinery created by milling a tongue on the edge of a flat board, which slips into a corresponding groove on an adjacent board
TORCHIER - standing lamp with indirect upward light
TORTOISE SHELL - hard, black-brown mottled shell of turtles and tortoises used as inlay or imitated on other surfaces
TO-THE-TRADE - wholesale or discounted price offered to a company responsible for specifying, purchasing, delivery, installation and warranty of a product or service
TRACERY - lacey design with open areas between interconnecting, ribbed curves, typically seen in Gothic wood carvings, stonework and window designs
TRACK LIGHTING - adjustable incandescent fixtures mounted along a electrified metal track installed on the ceiling
TRANSLUCENT - semi-opaque surface, which diffuses light while partially obscuring a view, i.e. privacy window, etched or frosted glass, window film. See
TRANSOM - narrow, horizontal, hinged or fixed decorative glass window placed over a doorway to create additional light, interest or to improve air circulation, often used in combination with sidelights
TRANSPARENT - completely see-through surface or object, i.e. clear window, crystal prism, glass paperweight

TRAVERSE ROD - cord-controlled drapery rod used for opening and closing window treatment
TREAD - flat horizontal member of a step or staircase. See RISER
TRELLIS - combination of horizontal and vertical wood elements constructed to form a lattice, designed to support vines
TREND - a general direction, inclination or tendency
TRIM - decorative textile bands used for edging fabric or upholstery panels; also refers to woodwork surrounding a fireplace, door opening or applied to a wall
--- Beaded Trim - flat braid with multi-beaded skirting
--- Brass Tacks - metal push pins with decorative heads used in upholstery to secure edges or add a decorative element
--- Buttons - ready-made or custom fabricated discs used to secure two pieces of fabric or added as a decorative element
--- Flat Gimp - woven bands, smaller bands are often used to cover upholstery tacks on furniture
--- Fringe - trim with a skirt of twisted cords, i.e. bullion, caterpillar, brush, moss
--- Frog - Oriental design consisting of wrapped cords or silk covered wire formed into loops
--- Galloon - flat patterned braid with straight or shaped edges
--- Tassel - hanging textile embellishment consisting of a heading and a skirt
--- Tassel Fringe - looped fringe with a tassel skirting
--- Tassel Tie-backs - tassels attached to a looped cord or rope
--- Rosette - cording or trim formed into the shape of a rose
--- Rope Cording - thick yarns, often multiple colors, twisted to form a rope
--- Jacquard Border - flat braids woven on a Jacquard loom
TROMPE L'OEIL - three dimensional painted architectural effects
TROPICAL - designs motifs of exotic plants and locations
TRUMEAU MIRROR - French mirror incorporating carved wood panels or oil paintings within the framework above the mirror
TRUNDLE BED - daybed twin bed frame housing an additional mattress below, which is pulled out as needed
TRUSS - intricate triangular shaped structural building component composed of straight elements, which strengthen and add stability under compression
TUFTED FABRIC - yarn tufted into a woven fabric to create a raised surface
TUFTED CARPET - needle threaded yarn punched back and forth through a pre-made backing to produce a looped or cut pile surface
TUSCAN ORDER - one of five Roman classical column designs featuring proportionately shorter smooth columns with an unadorned capital and base;
a subset of designs referred to as the "Classic Orders of Architecture" i.e. Doric Order, Ionic Order, Corinthian Order, Composite Order, Tuscan Order
TUSSAH - fabric woven of silk from uncultivated silkworms with slubs, which dye unevenly
TWEED - fabric made in twill weaves, often wool
TURNED PORCH POST - decorative pattern shaped by lathe on a standard square wood post, often used on Victorian homes and combined with fretwork
TWILL WEAVE - plain weave created with filler threads passing over two or more ends, giving the appearance of diagonal lines, originally made in Scotland. See HERRINGBONE
