According to author and designer Sarah Nettleton, simple homes are practical, beautiful and often green. Using stunning examples of homes and landscapes from across the nation, Nettleton will present her six paths to simple sustainability. In this seminar, you will learn:
· The design methodology and practical aesthetic of the current trend toward simplicity
· Unique ways to design homes and spaces that embody the luxury of enough and help homeowners live a simpler lifestyle
· The simplicity of sustainability and how it takes advantage of simple pleasures
Sarah Nettleton Architects designs houses and landscapes with an emphasis on sustainable design and supporting a lifestyle that reflects the values that motivate her clients lives. Among her acclaimed work is the Tofte Cabin, a 1947 cabin on Lake Superior. Nettleton is an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota Architecture School.

Since the 1990s, when the Americans with Disability Act was signed, a significant number of Americans have aged. The Baby Boomers, who are approaching retirement age, consistently drive the housing market and affect interior design. Now, one factor which many of these Baby Boomers share is a desire to live in place until they die. This presentation will address the design elements that can be incorporated within a home to make it a safer, more secure environment as one ages.
Barbara Daher is the interior design program coordinator at UC Santa Cruz Extension and an instructor at Chabot College. She is principal of her own firm, Designs by Daher in Burlingame. She holds masters of art in Housing and Interior Design.

Individual perceptions of design solutions are theoretically the most crucial aspect when assessing what the designer has created. Design is created for both aesthetic and functional results, but must also enhance a persons experience through the use of space.
This course will delve into office design efficacy by examining various design aspects that can enhance perceptions. It will offer theoretical and practical approaches to creating meaningful office environments that impact occupants and visitors. Office design attributes include desk & chair placement, accessory type and placement, color, and the visitor experience. The course will also analyze scholarly findings on environmental psychology.
Gus Vouchilas is an Assistant Professor of Interior Design at San Francisco State University and is a member of the advisory committee for the interior design department at Ohlone College. He holds a masters of art in Housing and Interior Design. He is principal of GV Interior Design in San Francisco.
