WASHINGTON D.C., Jan. 22 /Alliance to Save Energy/ -- The 32 diverse partners sponsoring the Power is in Your Hands campaign are targeting national policy makers with creative new ads that pose the playful yet serious question, How Many Light Bulbs Does It Take to Change the World? The ads convey the importance of energy efficiency in national energy policy and the idea that even simple actions such as substituting an energy-efficient light bulb for a traditional bulb can have a dramatic and meaningful impact when taken by millions of people.
The ad is part of a multi-faceted, energy-efficiency campaign designed to drive policy makers and consumers to a unique, interactive social website that highlights the interconnectedness of energy, our economy, and our environment. Visitors to the 6° of Energy-Efficiency Challenge website can test their Energy IQ with a simple six-question quiz; can take the challenge to commit to at least one of six energy-efficiency actions; can challenge six friends, family members, and colleagues to do the same; and can share their energy stories.
The ads design echoes the shape of the universe, with the names of the 32 partners arrayed in concentric circles around the headline. It starts with just one, the copy continues. Switching to energy-efficient light bulbs is one of the many simple actions that, multiplied by millions of people, can have a huge effect on our collective energy consumption. Thats why 32 diverse organizations and companies are uniting to challenge policy makers and everyday Americans to use energy more efficiently. The 6° of Energy-Efficiency Challenge highlights easy actions individuals can take to be more energy efficient. Take the challenge, share it with your constituents, and enact energy-efficiency policies that improve our environment, economy, and energy security. The power is in your hands. www.sixdegreechallenge.org .
The ad will run in National Journal, Roll Call, and Congress Daily leading into President Bushs January 23 State of the Union address and the administrations fiscal year 2008 budget request in early February.
These ads challenge policy makers to join with us to promote the wise use of energy, one degree at a time, said David N. Parker, president and CEO of the American Gas Association. We are proud of the contribution that Americas natural gas households have made to energy efficiency through very simple measures.
We call upon the entire Congress to take the 6° Challenge, and to challenge their staffs to do the same, and share the challenge with their constituents through newsletters, websites, meetings, and public remarks, urges Kateri Callahan, president of the Alliance to Save Energy, which has spearheaded the Power Is in Your Hands campaign with the American Gas Association, the Dow Chemical Company, and 29 other partners.
All Americans have a stake in using our precious energy resources wisely, said Peter Molinaro, vice president for Federal & State Government Affairs, The Dow Chemical Company. The 6° Challenge is a great way to spread the word about the critical role of energy efficiency. Even small steps can add up to tremendous savings and benefits to our environment.
Concurrently with the print ads, the campaign also is running a banner ad on washingtonpost.com and has underwritten a sponsorship of WAMU-FM, a Washington, D.C., affiliate of National Public Radio.
