'60s Icons Andy and Edie Inspire New Works by Rising Stars of the L.A. Art Scene
From Italy With Love, Talent and Black Tar: Artists Mattia Biagi and Valerj Pobega
WHEN: Opening February 1 thru March 23
WHAT: "Andy and Edie," featuring new works of sculpture using
black tar to cover Andy Warhol inspired objects such as
real money and Campbell's soup by Mattia Biagi, and mixed
media paintings of Warhol's "factory girl" muse Edie
Sedgwick by Biagi's wife Valerj Pobega open at the
Deborah Page Gallery in Santa Monica February 1.
WHO: Biagi has earned acclaim in the hot L.A. art scene by
creating sculptures covered in black tar, including
chandeliers, teddy bears, real money and chairs. He has
been featured in the Los Angeles Times, Interior Design,
Surface, Pop Life and LA Confidential. He met Pobega
when both were models in their native Italy, then did
creative work with top designers Armani, Gaultier and
Dolce e Gabbana. The couple moved to L.A. three years
ago, inspired by the city and the La Brea Tar Pits.
Deborah Page Schneider is an art consultant and curator
of the artwork for CordeValle Resort, Calistoga Ranch and
many private collections, including those of Rene di Rosa
and Danielle Steel. She created the acclaimed sculpture
garden at the Auberge du Soleil Resort in Napa Valley and
she likes to discover and promote emerging artists.

OPENING NIGHT: Credentialed members of the news media are welcome at the
opening party Thursday February 1 from 5-9 p.m. at the
gallery. Wine provided by Napa Valley's Rutherford Grove
estate, gin by No. 209. (Food will not be covered in
black tar.)
