PRESS RELEASE 02-19-07

Seattle Architecture Firm GGLO Selected to Design Springbrook Development's Luxury Inn, Restaurant, Spa, Retail Village

NEWBERG, Ore., Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Oregon entrepreneur and philanthropist Joan Austin has named Seattle architecture firm GGLO to design the luxury inn, restaurant, spa and retail village that will be part of her new Springbrook Development.

Springbrook, a 450-acre development in northeast Newberg, also will include 1,200 homes and townhomes, green spaces and recreational areas, all within the urban growth boundary. Construction on the inn is scheduled for first quarter 2008, while the entire project is expected to take a decade to complete.

GGLO was one of three finalists selected after a consulting team considered nearly a dozen firms and selected six semi-finalists from Portland, Seattle and San Francisco. GGLO is well known for its design work on hotels and inns from the Bay area to Seattle.

Among hotels, inns and spas designed by GGLO are the Inn at Langley and Friday Harbor House (San Juan Islands, Wash.); Tiburon Lodge north of San Francisco, Willows Lodge at Redmond, Wash., and the Washington Mutual Leadership Center at Cedarbrook near Tacoma. Several hotel renovations in the Bay area are on GGLO's drawing boards.

GGLO's timeline is to complete the schematic design by mid-April, design development by mid-July and start of construction by early 2008.

When named as winner of the prestigious project, GGLO Principal Alan Grainger said, "This is a fabulous project located on a prime site in Oregon's Yamhill Valley wine region. We felt a sincere connection to the owners, the land, the owners and the existing team of consultants," he said.

"We have a real passion for this project. We intend to design a beautiful inn, restaurant, spa and village for Joan Austin and her family," he said. "Joan is a truly incredible and visionary businesswoman," he continued.

Mrs. Austin said a primary reason the search team selected GGLO was because of the firm's integrated approach to design.

"In the Pacific Northwest, GGLO has an outstanding record of designing resort and hotel properties. We were impressed with their strong desire to win this project. We also liked the fact that they provide all services -- architectural design, interior design and landscaping," she said.

The GGLO team will include Alan Grainger, overall principal in charge; James Bradley, project designer; Carol Schaefer, interior designer; Pamela Trevithick, project manager; and Bill Gaylord, director of retail, who will oversee development of the village.

Springbrook is a 450-acre development located in northeast Newberg, Ore., about 45 minutes southwest of Portland. The property is owned by Oregon entrepreneur and philanthropist Joan Austin and her children, Loni Austin Parrish, Ken Austin III and his wife, Celia. The decade-long project will include a luxury inn, restaurant, spa, retail village, 1,200 homes and townhomes, ample recreational trails and green spaces.
